Nausea can range from feelings of uneasy needing to vomit all the way through to actually having to vomit. Vomiting is the act of forcing the contents of the stomach up through the esophagus and out of the mouth. This can happen for many different reasons especially anything that affects gastrointestinal functioning. This would include reasons like stress, constipation, faulty diet, overeating, mild food poisoning, indigestion, pregnancy, motion or travel sickness, chemotherapy, medications and infections.
It is one of the ways in which your body is able to respond to a wide variety of invaders and irritants. For instance sneezing ejects intruders from the nose, coughing from the lungs and throat, diarrhea from the intestines and vomiting from the stomach. Vomiting is a forceful action accomplished by a fierce, downward contraction of the diaphragm. At the same time, the abdominal muscles tighten against a relaxed stomach with an open sphincter. The contents of the stomach are propelled up and out.
Vomiting is a complex, coordinated reflex orchestrated by the vomiting center of the brain. It responds to signals coming from: The mouth, stomach, and intestines; the bloodstream, which may contain medicines or infections; the balancing systems in the ear (motion sickness); the brain itself, including unsettling sights, smells, or thoughts. An amazing variety of stimuli can trigger vomiting, from migraines to kidney stones. Sometimes, just seeing someone else vomit will start you vomiting, in your body’s effort to protect you from possible exposure to the same danger.
Essential oils that can be very helpful dealing with and help to combat feelings of Nausea, Vomiting and Travel Sickness include Aniseed, Cardamom, Coriander, Fennel, Ginger, Lavender, Melissa, Nutmeg, Peppermint, Roman chamomile.
Methods of use could be as simple as just sniffing the oils in an inhaler or a drop or two of the synergy on a tissue or cotton ball. A synergistic blend diluted in carrier oil and massaged in a clockwise direction on the solar plexus or abdomen can be very soothing. You don’t need more than 2 drops of synergy for every 5ml of carrier oil you make up. I find that a roller ball applicator is often very handy for those who suffer from nausea on a regular basis e.g. those who suffer from travel sickness. A 10ml roller ball applicator only needs 4 drops of synergy. It is easy to carry around with you and equally as easy to apply the blend to the solar plexus or a very little just under the nose. This can be used during pregnancy as well but in this case the dilution needs to be higher so only 1 drop of synergy for every 5 ml of carrier oil, which would mean only 2 drops in a 10ml roller ball applicator.
When making up the synergy one needs to keep in mind any contra-indications the individual for whom the blend is being made up might have for each of the oils used.
