The weather seems to have finally turned here in the Lower Mainland and it has got quite a bit cooler and wetter.
This sort of weather change always brings with it the possibility of colds and sniffles and it would be a good idea to think about boosting up one’s immune system and diffusing our wonderful essential oils around us for protection. I have written about colds etc over the last few years and the ideas in those blogs would be worth reviewing:
Essential Oils and the Common Cold
Essential Oils for Fall and Immune Boosting
Essential Oils and Swine Flu (H1N1)
And then there is the old fashioned remedy of the Onion. Apparently, according to an email circulating last year, having an unpeeled onion in a dish in each room of the house protects against bacteria, viruses and flu. The email went on to say that if someone was already ill to place a cut onion next to them overnight. In the morning the onion will have turned colour and the person will be better.
I tried this out last year, with my new fashion accessories of an onion in a pretty bowl in each of the rooms of my house. Whether it really works or it was just mind over matter, the truth is I didn’t get sick all year. So in addition to diffusing essential oils I do have onions in pretty bowls in every room of the house and I don’t intend to get sick this year either. Of course, you may have to use a bit more essential oil to cover up the onion smell!
