First Aid for minor conditions using Essential Oils

When life’s minor discomforts assail us essential oils can prove to be very helpful. Obviously when the condition is serious or life threatening one should turn to allopathic medicine.

Bruises
Show up when the underlying tissue has been damaged, usually as a result of a knock or pressure. Apply bruise synergy as needed to the bruise.
Essential Oils to consider: Geranium, Helichrysum, Lavender, Marjoram, Peppermint.
Bruise Synergy.
20 ml carrier oil.
Helichrysum 10 drops
Marjoram 5 drops

Burns/Scalds
First degree burns and scalds can be very painful, they leave the skin reddened and sometimes a blister will form.
Cool the skin under running water or immerse the burned area in a basin of cold water.
Apply neat essential oils onto the scalded area.
Lavender is the oil most often used for burns.
If the burn covers a larger area you may want to apply a cold aromatic compress to the area.
Second or third degree burns should not be immersed in water and should receive urgent medical attention.
Essential Oils to consider: Eucalyptus, Niaouli, Chamomile, Geranium, Lavender

Cuts and Grazes
Thoroughly clean the cut/wound area. This can be done under running water or with a cold aromatic compress. Then apply the cut and wound synergy.
Essential Oils to consider: Geranium, Lavender, Marjoram, Niaouli, Palmarosa, Rosemary, Tea Tree.
Cut Synergy
20ml carrier oil
3 drops Lavender
2 drops Tea Tree
5 drops Palmarosa

Earache
Gently massage around ear with the Earache Synergy.
Essential Oils to consider: Roman Chamomile, Eucalyptus, Lavender, Tea Tree.

20ml carrier oil
5 drops Lavender
5 drops Roman Chamomile

Headaches
Icy aromatic compress.
Massage to head, neck and shoulders.
Inhalation.
Essential Oils to consider: chamomile (Roman), Lavender, Marjoram, Rosemary, Peppermint.
Headache synergy
20ml carrier oil
5 drops Lavender
3 drops Marjoram
1 drop Peppermint

Indigestion
Apply a gentle abdominal massage in a clockwise direction.
Inhale Peppermint or Ginger.
Essential Oils to consider: Cardamon, Coriander, Fennel, Ginger, Lemon, Orange, Lavender, Peppermint.
Indigestion Synergy
20ml carrier oil
5 drops lavender
3 drops lemon
2 drops peppermint

Sprain/Strains
Apply a cold or icy aromatic compress to the affected area. Rest the injured area and elevate when possible.
Essential Oils to consider: Roman and German Chamomile, Cypress, Eucalyptus, Geranium, Lavender, Marjoram, Pine, Rosemary.
Sprain/Strain Synergy
20ml carrier oil
5 drops Chamomile (Roman)
3 drops rosemary
2 drops marjoram

Toothache
Apply one or two drops directly to the tooth.
Essential Oils to consider: clove or peppermint.
Caution: Overuse of clove can cause gum damage. Only use as in an emergency.
Gently apply toothache synergy to the jaw area.

20ml carrier oil
5 drops Chamomile
5 drops Lavender
